Hand to the Plow
The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary was founded in 1859, and as you can imagine, the Civil War posed a significant challenge to the seminary’s mission to train ministers to proclaim the gospel to the end of the earth. Expressing his resolute commitment to the mission of the seminary, one of the founders John Broadus said to James Boyce: “Suppose we quietly agree that the Seminary may die, but we’ll die first.”
